Southern California Road & Trail Maps
The Automobile Club of Southern California publishes several maps useful to the hiker. Supplement the regional maps and trail maps in this guide with the Auto Club’s county maps, including Santa Barbara County, Ventura County, Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County and San Diego County. Add to your collection Los Angeles County Mountains & Deserts (a favorite of The Trailmaster because it highlights so many SoCal trailheads) and the Auto Club’s San Bernardino Mountains maps.
U.S. Forest Service maps of Los Padres, Angeles, San Bernardino and Cleveland national forests help the hiker get the big picture of these sprawling lands. I enthusiastically recommend Tom Harrison’s maps of the San Gabriel Mountains, San Jacinto Mountains and Santa Monica Mountains. These maps, updated regularly, are very accurate and show all the hiking trails and dirt roads.
